Challenges and opportunities faced by the iron and steel industry in the haze era

2017 new year has arrived, and the haze is still lingering. As a representative of heavy chemical industry, the iron and steel industry is naturally to blame, and the situation of production restriction and shutdown in large areas of North China has risen again. Controlling smog is a long-term project. We must see that the challenges faced by the steel industry are not just temporary production restriction or shutdown. Therefore, we must have a clear understanding of what will happen to the steel industry in the haze era of precision instruments. 1、 In an era when princes and generals and peddlers and pawns shared the same fog and haze, haze is not a new thing, but it has not attracted people's attention for a long time. Tangshan, Shijiazhuang, Xingtai and many places in Shanxi Province in Hebei Province had experienced large-scale air pollution more than ten years ago, but at that time, there was no such thing as haze, nor did it attract the attention of the society. The people in these places just sucked the haze silently out of the public's sight. The turning point was around 2010, when the haze came to Beijing and foreign criticism of the haze problem increased. People began to gradually realize that this phenomenon really exists. Although we haven't paid attention to the problem of smog for a long time, its severity is far beyond imagination. We can take a look at the national air quality statistics of the Ministry of environmental protection: in the 367 cities nationwide on December 20, the proportion of serious pollution was 12%, the proportion of severe and moderate pollution was 13.1% and 15.5% respectively, and the excellent rate was only 41.4%. It can also be seen from Figure 2 that Shijiazhuang is the area with more serious air pollution than Beijing and Tianjin for at least one month. However, Beijing has the greatest social impact after air pollution. Under the massive publicity of the government and the media, it has created the illusion that Beijing is the most serious air pollution

however, air pollution is an unavoidable problem in China today. No one can escape the world under the haze. To some extent, this is also a kind of fairness. No matter the princes and generals who live in Diaolianghuadong or the peddlers and pawns who don't have enough to eat, no one can take a fresh breath from the turbid air for themselves to be increasingly valued by countries around the world. Even if the iron and steel enterprises in Beijing are relocated, the pollution in nearby cities will also float away. It can be said that under the specter of air pollution, no one can be alone. Because of this, more and more attention has been paid to the control of smog, and the control of air pollution has become increasingly urgent. 2、 Original sin of the iron and steel industry: the overlap between major production areas and the hardest hit areas by smog. It is generally believed that industrialization is the main cause of smog. The rapid development of industries that consume petrochemical energy, the rapid increase in the number of motor vehicles, and the continuous expansion of urban scale have become the main sources of air pollution. The iron and steel industry is also responsible for the formation of air pollution such as smog. In the process of steel smelting, a large number of harmful gases such as dust, smoke, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides will be emitted, which are the main pollutants forming smog weather. We compared the steel production and the areas with serious air pollution, and found a high consistency between the two. Among the major steel producing provinces, except Jiangsu Province, which is less affected due to its geographical location, other provinces are the hardest hit areas of air pollution. As of November, the output of crude steel in Hebei Province has exceeded 177million tons, and Hebei is also the place with the most serious air pollution. In addition, the elastic modulus E and proportional limit of materials can be measured σ p. Elastic limit σ E, Tangshan, Shijiazhuang, Baoding, Langfang and other places, have often been seriously polluted since the winter. Jinan new era Gold Testing Instrument Co., Ltd. will introduce and discuss the use of experimental machines after customers purchase. Another province with a crude steel output of more than 100 million yuan is Jiangsu. However, Jiangsu has a good geographical location. There are no mountains around, and it also has a long coastline, which will not cause a large number of pollutants to stagnate and form haze. Other major steel producing provinces are not so lucky. The output of Shandong is more than 65million tons, that of Liaoning is more than 54million tons, that of Shaanxi is more than 36million tons, and that of Henan and Hubei is more than 26million tons. These places are also the hardest hit areas of air quality pollution. In particular, Laiwu City and Zibo City in Shandong Province, Datong City and Xingtai City in Shanxi Province and other places suffer from smog every winter. Moreover, these major steel producing areas were already suffering from the haze problem long before it attracted the attention of the whole society

data source: MRI steel industry does cause air pollution, and there is a large degree of overlap between steel producing areas and areas with frequent smog. It is for this reason that whenever the air quality drops, the voice for rectifying the iron and steel industry is everywhere
